The Corner - Summertime (6.25.2003)

How four weeks turned into four months, I'll never know....Though I've been watching (and blogging) in other places, there's no missive yet on what Open Tank as a web log really means. It just feels different than the rest of the blogosphere to work in fits and starts and to produce content aside from commentary. Installing the software will also have to wait for another day. I dig back into the winter months and find these awaiting the light of day: (see: "The crow's nest", "How do you say") Let's see how they play, - jan pavel

The Corner - New School Rules (2.27.2003)

A weekend in study, and I'm already hooked....OpenTank is now (was always?) a variant on a web log, aka: blog; it's official. But,...more a demi-blog than a blog. What's the difference, besides the bold typeface? I promise to split a few hairs sometime soon. I'm also licensing my work under a Creative Commons license: anyone now knows explicitly that they can use any work on my site as long as they attribute the work to me, don't change it and don't use it commercially...which, come to think of it, shouldn't be so hard. =:^ ) There are two new main pages: the List provides a fairly thorough set of links to people, places and things I think important enough to point out. Below the fold, we've got buttons. Some provide links to validation check sites for web based standards, so browsers and feed readers don't choke; some are links to my site syndication feed; and still others are to some main indexes of blogs and blogdom. RSS (for Rich Site Syndication, Real Simple Syndication, etc.) has been around in blogging circles for several years. It is a way to provide consistent content information (data and metadata) to and from software, somewhat like email, only through a different file format that is "read" instead of "sent". All this and no poetry? Well, just one for now, as I've been busy...(see: "This sun") Surfing the latest trends, - jan pavel

The Corner - Stirrings (2.13.2003)

Pre-Valentine's Day wishes, for as many flowers and sweet stuff as you can stand. I keep forgetting to plug an album I've been playing a lot of lately, DJ Mark Farina's Mushroom Jazz 4. Downtempo dance music with an urban edge - you might just like it. Had the opportunity to see Sam Hamill, reluctant founder of Poets Against The War, read with another local poet, Joseph Stroud, at Cabrillo College on this past Monday evening. Adrienne Rich, a fairly well-known poet in her own right, introduced Sam. As far as current events and politics go, my thoughts are wide and without just one side: (see "The binary refinery") I'm also having strange visions of flooding Springtime basements: (see "Where the corner")...and gardens, before most of you can even see the ground beneath the snow: (see "I dig carefully") Something's moving (and I don't think it's the fence), - jan pavel
